This article is getting overloaded with quotations

[edit]

It seems to me that this article is getting overloaded with quotations... or am I of the minority view? Shouldn't we limit ourselves to the most noteworthy ones? B.Wind 07:53, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I want to know about Professor Fate's car, Hannibal VIII, it is one the best automobiles ever(----) FlyinLow5 (talk) 18:07, 15 March 2017 (UTC)There is now a good discussion in the article under Custom Cars. Note: It is the "Hannibal Twin-8", not Hannibal VIII. Though the movie cars were made with Corvair or Volvo engines, I always understood that name to imply Professor Fate's fictional car had two V-8 engines in it. Or, possibly, a V-8 extended to form a V-16.Reply

The car has two distinct engine compartments and two cranks, so one would assume two engines. 2001:56A:F414:D300:2C2A:C281:206D:5B2C (talk) 00:49, 5 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

I've removed the redlink to "Webber Motor Company" as this was a fictional automaker. The car in the movie was based on the 1907 "Thomas Flyer Model 35 Roundabout" (built by Buffalo, NY's E. R. Thomas Car Co.) from the real-life race. Astynax talk 06:43, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Smash hit?

[edit]

The article says the film was a hit and one of the top 10 grossing films of that year, yet the revenue is listed as 1 million less than the production costs. This must be an error, surely? 1812ahill (talk) 13:21, 4 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Erroneously confused for Steam Punk

[edit]

This movie is of the steampunk genre. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.221.158.236 (talk) 01:55, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

FlyinLow5 (talk) 18:01, 15 March 2017 (UTC)This movie is NOT of the steampunk genre. Rather, it is simply set in the first decade of the 1900s (Late Victorian). Steampunk would have been a similar mechanical technology, but used in a futuristic science-fiction way -- which is not THIS movie. Reference Wikipedia's own Steampunk page [1]Reply

Character names

[edit]

One of my favorite films. I have seen multiple sources that give those characters' full names as "Leslie Gallant III" and "Hezekiah Sturdy." However, I was watching it just yesterday and noted that Keenan Wynn's character is referred to as "Mr. Hezekiah" at least one, while Curtis's is addressed as "Mr. Leslie" several times. I understand - and appreciate - the informal courtesy shown by addressing someone as "Mister Jim," "Miss Phyllis," etc., but I just don't think that fits here. Do these names - along with Max's surname of "Meen" - come from a script or press kit or something? PurpleChez (talk) 17:03, 15 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Contemporary criticism section?

[edit]

It currently says that it wasn't well received by critics and then at the end of the paragraph there's a 75% RT rating. So maybe this page could do with a Contemporary Criticism section like other classic movies have? Kansaikiwi (talk) 04:49, 5 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

This movie is Not a Musical/Western

[edit]

There are only two songs with lyrics in the entire movie. One of these songs takes place in an Old West style bar. The other song has a "sing-along" subtitle run. The movie is Comedy/Adventure with only about 8-10 minutes taking place in a "Western" setting. All the other 'non-song' music is standard background that fits the action of the scenes.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8801:3008:1600:E16C:D16F:80A1:FCD4 (talk) 09:58, 20 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Filming locations

[edit]

A good addition to add is the castle in Porzdorf which was filmed at Anif Palace. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 00:03, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
