With the death of Terence English, reports of him conducting the first heart transplant in the UK and first heart-lung transplant in Europe have been cited widely, not just on here and in his entry on here. But in fact the first heart transplant in the UK was carried out by Donald Ross in 1968 and the first heart-lung transplant in Europe was carried out in 1983 by Magdi Yacoub. Some of this may hinge on the term 'successful' as many of the early transplant recipients sadly died after, by today's standards, a relatively short time. But the fact of the procedures happening in 1968 and 1983 seems incontrovertible.
