Ebrié ? – WP:NCET#Self-identification indicates we should prefer autonyms over derogatory terms. Lede of *this* article says the name is derogatory. Tchaman also indicates they call themselves Tchaman. An authoritative-looking sources here here and here use Tchaman. It looks like the english page is merely translated from the French, but that does not mean the French page is neutral. I am not aware of any opposition to this move, but given that I am not totally familiar with the matter I am logging this as a requested move rather than simply doing it myself. Just trying to chip away at systemic bias -- looks like a vestige of colonialism (?) Elinruby (talk) 03:27, 25 October 2016 (UTC)--Relisting. © Tbhotch (en-2.5). 10:54, 1 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Move to Tchaman While English usage appears to prefer Ebrié, there are clear reasons to prefer Tchaman. As Obrist et al (2006) note "Ebrié is a foreign denomination given to them by the Aboure meaning ‘dirty people’. Their self designation was Tchaman, ‘the chosen ones’ (Diabate and Kodjo, 1990)." As noted by nom: WP:NCET#Self-identification is clear that "Any terms regarded as derogatory by members of the ethnic group in question should be avoided" (supported also by WP:NPOVTITLE). In addition, the name helps with precision to avoid confusion with people from the Ébrié Lagoon (per WP:CRITERIA). This is a good move request.
