I've removed the mention of a Tagetes species native to Africa as I have been unable to verify this. "African marigolds" are derived from T. erecta, a Mexican species. At least one species (T. minuta, syn. T. glandulifera) grows "wild" in Africa but appears to be an introduced weed. MrDarwin 18:05, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tagetes minuta in South-Africa

Tagetes minuta is not cultivated in South-Africa at all. The species entered the country during the Anglo-Boer War (1896-1902) with the importation of fodder for british horses. Although widely naturalized it is a declared weed (katogory 1) according to the South African department of water and forestry.Autumnleaves51 (talk) 09:12, 10 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
