IUCN (2007) and FishBase both list this species as Synodontis leopardinus. FishBase, in particular, lists S. leopardina as a synonym and marks it as a "misspelling of the species' name that must not be used": Synonyms of Synodontis leopardinus Pellegrin, 1914
