6 goal record?

[edit]

In the article, it says "He also set the modern-day NHL record by scoring six goals in a game on February 3, 1944, versus the New York Rangers, a record which has since been twice equaled but never bettered in over fifty years of play" but in the next paragraph it says "In a February 3, 1944 game against the New York Rangers, Howe scored six goals in a single game, a total that has been surpassed only once when Joe Malone scored seven." Which is true? I would fix this myself but I don't know anything about this. --Lizzysama (talk) 22:23, 14 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Malone scored seven goals in a 1920 game when the NHL itself was but a few years old. I suppose that the playing conditions and rules (e.g., offside passes) were considered different enough that six goals in a game has been recognized as the "modern" record ever since.
