Was there a reason he was not drawn and quartered? I thought hung drawn and quartered was the typical death for 'traitors'. --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 19:04, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

As I understand it, under 27 Eliz. Cap 2, The Act Against Jesuits, Seminary Priests and Other Such Disobedient Subjects, priests were convicted as traitors and therefore, hanged, drawn, and quartered. (Note how Jesuits and seminary priests are specifically mentioned.) Under a separate clause, Wells was essentially convicted off "aiding and abetting", and therefore only hanged. (I know this response is long due, but others reading this might have the same question. Mannanan51 (talk) 05:32, 4 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
