Possible recent death

Public genealogical records (FamilySearch, Find a Grave) indicate a Susan Janet Miller (b. March 21, 1948, matching this subject's other biographical details) died September 11, 2025 in Iowa. I have not found any news obituary or secondary source reporting this, so I'm not adding it to the article, but flagging here in case it helps other editors who may have access to sources I don't. Divorces in Haiti, marriages in Virginia

I think there is some confusion about the Haiti divorces, perhaps because the WalesOnline article only mentions the 1976 Haiti divorces between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, and between James Hunt and Suzy Miller:

In June 1976, the divorces of Taylor and Burton and James and Suzy Hunt were formalised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.... On August 21 of the same year Hunt and Burton were married in Virginia, USA. The marriage lasted six years....

But Burton used Haiti a second time in 1983 for the Miller divorce, and Rubython describes this explicitly as a repeat trip:

At the beginning of 1983, Burton returned to Port-au-Prince in Haiti for a divorce from Suzy; much as he had seven years earlier when seeking a divorce from Taylor. Suzy was given US$1 million in cash and their holiday house in Puerto Vallarta as a settlement. He kept his home in Celigny and the rest of his money. The reason for the quickie divorce soon became apparent; Burton, it seemed, now wanted to marry another – a pretty Englishwoman called Sally Hay, a film production assistant. 34-year-old Sally was even more attentive than Suzy but in a less intrusive and more intelligent way. He quickly married Sally when he returned from Haiti.

As background: Haiti was a popular place for quick divorces, because they had same-day no-fault divorces with no residency requirement. At this time, divorces in other places often required proving grounds for divorce, a separation period, and/or residency. Similarly as we see here, Virginia was a popular place to get married after a divorce in Haiti, because although a lot of US states didn't recognize the Haiti divorces, Virginia did.

Given this, I'd like to restore the 1983/Haiti wording with the Rubython citation attached directly to that clause. Let me know if you see it differently.Wikipedian-in-Waiting (talk) 01:05, 30 July 2026 (UTC)

Oh I see. Thanks for this clarification; the previous 1983/Haiti wording must be restored then. That said, I think this should be reflected in Richard Burton's article; it says there that the Burton-Miller divorce happened in 1982 instead of 1983. Vida0007 (talk) 01:08, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
