Lead section
I know usually only the creator (and I assume mentioning if they're the showrunner too) is included into the lead section while the producers and other crew belong in the body. However, since the creator/showrunners, the Duffer Brothers also frequently write and direct the show, does anyone feel it is worth adding "and often writers and directors" in the lead section as well? ATC . Talk 22:40, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- Because of the rather large ensemble—without one particular lead character—I'm thinking they just belong in the cast and characters section, and not the lead section (as it makes it it look very bulky and it also comes across as vague as to what central role they have on the show's main storyline). Any thoughts? ATC . Talk 02:42, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- Also, I think the sentence "Several thematic and directorial elements were inspired by the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, David Lynch, Stephen King, Wes Craven and H. P. Lovecraft" just belongs in the development section and not the lead. ATC . Talk 02:52, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- Then we'd also remove from the lead the mention of other influences, like government experiments and conspiracy theories. Do you prefer only mentioning a couple of the filmmakers and writers in the lead? Lapadite (talk) 07:07, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- As for the cast in the lead, I personally don't mind it as is but would prefer only listing actors that have been in multiple seasons. --Lapadite (talk) 07:09, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

- I just saw this. Not in the lead, or at least the opening paragraph. It is already noted in the body of the article and the infobox. It's unnecessary trivia in the lead and likely not of importance for most readers. Showrunners have creative control of the production, including leading the writing team. Unless a showrunner has an unusual role per reliable sources, like being credited as a writer on every single episode of a series, stating in the lede that they write is unnecessary. --Lapadite (talk) 06:44, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- Is not trivia to give credit to them. As lapadite asked "credited as a writer on every single episode", not even the duffer brothers themselves are producing every episode. Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen has created many episodes especially those in season 2,3,4 and Shawn Levy has been to a number of interviews about his work on the series. As for the current lead here are my concerns
- "Its first season was released on Netflix on July 15, 2016, with the fifth and final season renewed in February 2022." Why would you jump from its first season was released on said date then mention 5 as if season 2, 3, 4 do not exist? And why would you link only one season out of the 3 that are available.
- support. As per lapadite saying "As for the cast in the lead, I personally don't mind it as is but would prefer only listing actors that have been in multiple seasons."

@Uricdivine: you removed the entire cast from the lead, and removed other series description info with a misuse of "cleanup"; please read what WP:CLEANUP is. Have you sought WP:Consensus for these major changes? --Lapadite (talk) 06:30, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
@ Lapadite hmmm I didn't even know there is something like Wikipedia cleanup because if I had known just like other policies I apply I would have linked it. I meant cleanup per se I removed part of the lead not that I applied a "cleanup" policy. For things I removed the only policy I applied was MOS:TVGENRE, which says "for example, an article on a television series should begin with basic information about the show, such as when it first premiered, genre(s) and setting, who created/developed the show, its primary broadcasting station (typically the studio that produces the show), and when the show stopped airing (the first airing of the final episode)". Every single detail. As per Wikipedia consensus, you mean the one we were meant to have but just because we had a content dispute in another page you refused to engage?. Also if you think that non of my "major" changes falls under MOS:TVGENRE feel free to bring up a debate.
UricdivineTalkToMe 12:31, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
- The lede is to summarize the overall article, so including the main cast, and a bit about development, alongside the broadcast details, synopsis, and reception (all major sections on this page) is required. Note that MOS:TVGENRE is not talking about the overall lede, just the first paragraph. --Masem (t) 16:22, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- The showrunner might not write each episode but they do produce each one (i.e., they are on the set early to tell the director of each episode they hired how they want each scene to be filmed before editing storylines in the writers room, employ the cast and crew, approve the budget for network and studio bosses, make all the final decisions, etc.).
- Also, only the casting director is involved in narrowing down and recruiting the cast for the showrunner to hire; the other producers (even EPs, excluding the showrunner) are not involved in the casting and do don’t pen the script for each episode so this sentence in the Development section might need to reworded: “The brothers started to write out the series and brought Levy and Cohen in as the other executive producers to begin casting and filming.” I’m thinking: “The brothers started casting and brought Levy and Cohen in as the other executive producers to begin writing out the series.“ EJA94 (talk) 16:55, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- To add, I’m thinking of moving the sentence “Set in the 1980s, primarily in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the series centers on a number of mysteries and supernatural events occurring around the town and their impact on an ensemble of child and adult characters.” to the ending sentence of the first paragraph, as well as rewording the cast in the second paragraph to: “It stars Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, the mother to Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Will (Noah Schnapp); police officer Jim Hopper (David Harbour); Noah’s friends—Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), and Luke (Caleb McLaughlin); and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), a girl with psychokinetic abilities. Other characters include Mike’s older sister Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and her boyfriend Steve (Joe Keery).” EJA94 (talk) 17:31, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- I do not think you need to identify the characters, just those listed as starring in any season (eg you still need to include Sadie Sink, etc.) Masem (t) 17:56, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- EJA94, this is undue weight, and very unnecessary —
UricdivineTalkToMe 18:28, 19 August 2022 (UTC) - Disagree with giving any trivia on the cast/characters in the lead. This is a large ensemble. Keep it concise, including the synopsis (which is, in my opinion, solid as is). Providing details on any cast member or character in the lead may give undue weight to an individual, as the series does not center on one specific character/actor. Lapadite (talk) 00:10, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Just so everyone is on the same page, I’m User:ATC on my laptop and User:EJA94 on my phone (as I have trouble logging into my ATC account on my phone). Also, that is fine with everything mentioned, but I’d have to agree with @Lapadite that only the ensemble cast members who appear in every season should be mentioned in the lead. EJA94 (talk) 21:03, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- EJA94, I agree to that esemble cast should be in the lead. Saide is an esemble cast now although she didn't start from the pioneer season. Also I thoughts it was compulsory to indicate you have a another account in your userpage?. —
UricdivineTalkToMe 22:39, 19 August 2022 (UTC) - @EJA94 and ATC:, I never said only cast members who appear in every season should be mentioned in the lead, please don't misrepresent my position. I said the lead could be limited to cast members who have appeared in multiple (meaning 3 or more) seasons, as a compromise. Also, if you're using more than once account on WP, please note that on your user or talk page (for both accounts). --Lapadite (talk) 00:02, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
Also, what does everyone think about the infobox? Is it necessary to include the writers and directors as it is written? EJA94 (talk) 21:36, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- EJA94, yh it is —
UricdivineTalkToMe 22:41, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
And while I agree we should remove this paragraph from the lead: “The Duffer Brothers developed Stranger Things as a mix of investigative drama and supernatural elements portrayed with horror and childlike sensibilities, while infusing references to the pop culture of the 1980s. Several thematic and directorial elements were inspired by the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, David Lynch, Stephen King, Wes Craven and H. P. Lovecraft. They also took inspiration from experiments conducted during the Cold War and conspiracy theories involving secret government experiments.“, how about adding in the second paragraph info on how it also involves secret government experiments? So the paragraph would write as follows: “Set in the 1980s, primarily in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the series centers on a number of mysteries and supernatural events occurring around the town due to secret government experiments and their impact on an ensemble of child and adult characters…” EJA94 (talk) 21:36, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- The lede is required to summarize all parts of the article, so discussing the development of the show is absolutely required. Masem (t) 00:06, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
Why was my text reverted if only the showrunner and casting director are involved in the casting; the other EPs just work in the writers room (and in some cases like these also distribute)? EJA94 (talk) 21:52, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- EJA94, did you go through the citation beside it? —
UricdivineTalkToMe 22:46, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
You can add the "government experiment" stuff to better clarify but is best to leave the rest.
UricdivineTalkToMe 22:45, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- :But it’s redundant and already mentioned in the body, and User:Lapadite agrees. It even goes against MOS:TVGENRE as it doesn’t mention anything about “thematic and directorial elements” inspirations Therefore, it is not necessary for the lead. EJA94 (talk) 23:17, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I agree with what exactly? This discussion and its structure is confusing. To be clear, I stated that as a compromise for a large main cast, maybe only the cast that has been in multiple (3 or more) seasons can be listed in the lead. But other editors may disagree and may want to mention all main cast members in the lead. I never agreed to removing all cast from the lead, or to removing the information on development, influences, or synopsis. Lapadite (talk) 23:53, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, I’ll add the other ensemble cast members back in the lead. EJA94 (talk) 01:11, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
- TVGENRE does not say what you think it says. "The lead should also summarize the major points of the rest of the article: premise, basic production information (e.g. where the show is filmed), principal cast of the show, critical reception, influences, place in popular culture, major awards, and anything else that made the show unique". Masem (t) 00:07, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying. Must’ve misread and not read through everything on TVGENRE. :). EJA94 (talk) 01:11, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

By the way, for the basic production info in the lead, since Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen own the production company 21 Laps Entertainment, which is a distributor of the show, should we add and rephrase the sentence to: “The brothers serve as showrunners and are executive producers along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen, under their 21 Laps Entertainment label.”? Stranger things Franchise
Can you pls create the page from stranger things Franchise Cjsorima10 (talk) 06:47, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
- There is no need for that article. Currently the franchise only consists of a TV show (which that article already covers) and a relatively small number of spin-off media (e.g., comic books) which can also be covered in this article. There is no larger 'franchise' to speak of. If a TV spin-off is officially announced, perhaps then a seperate article would be appropriate. Until then, there is no point. Influences
I only just noticed that the last 20 minutes of the terrible film The Puppet Masters (1994) seriously influenced Stranger Things. Has anyone discussed this in the sources?
- The "snowflakes" from the destruction of the alien hive towards the end of The Puppet Masters are highly reminiscent of the "snowflakes" used throughout the show, particularly in reference to the toxic spores of the Upside Down.
- The use of the stairwell imagery deep underground in the alien hive in Des Moines, Iowa, is highly reminiscent of the stairwell imagery in the deep underground lab of the Hawkins National Laboratory, near the Upside Down portal in Indiana
- The character of Dr. Graves, the lead medical researcher, played by actor Will Patton has a young face almost identical in its resemblance to Dr. Martin Brenner, played by Matthew Modine, also the lead researcher. Both are noted as having an unusual connection to their research subjects and speak in a similar cadence and tone.
- The romantic love interest in the film, between the characters of Sam Nivens and Mary Sefton, serves a similar role in Stranger Things, with the romantic interest of Jim Hopper and Joyce Byers. Both male characters are law enforcement figures. Both women do not seem attracted to the men until there is a significant emotional reveal from the men.
- Both the film and the show take place in the midwest, respectively in Iowa and Indiana.
- Both the film and the show involve secret government programs
- In the film, the aliens are trying to take over using their hive mind capabilities; in the television show, Vecna is trying to take over using its hive mind capabilities
- The role of children is paramount in both stories, with the children in the film playing a major role in spreading the alien contagion as well as wiping out and taking over the army. On the television show, the children play a similar role.
I can go on, but I'm looking for sources, because the similarities are great. Viriditas (talk) 01:51, 26 December 2024 (UTC)

Under "Overview", second paragraph, the following sentence…
"A young psychokinetic girl named Eleven escapes from the laboratory and is found Will's friends Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, and Lucas Sinclair."
…is missing the word by after "and is found" and before "Will's friends". There should also be a comma after "Will's friends".
Sentence should read:

"Many consider it" is weasel wording I can't find any evidence of this in the article. But that's only 1 publication and for only this young century not all time. If we can't credibly source this it should be removed. ~2025-33274-55 (talk) 03:41, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

From where I am, in Brazil, there is a date on Netflix saying that it will be released here on December 31, 2025, at 10 pm. As the series is from the United States, the ideal would be to use the Washington time zone, right? Since the "already released" date depends on each region. - Is this not what this article is already doing? All dates here are listed per their American timezone. -- Alex_21 TALK 03:05, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
- A user had added that the last episode had already been released, and mentioned the time zone, but did not say which country he was based in to make this edition. But the edit was undone.Theys York (talk) 06:15, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
What's with the notes section?
Neither of the two entries is a useful note, but the first one is someone's poorly written essay of personal categorization of the show, with nothing substantiated or factual. ~2026-40611 (talk) 18:46, 3 January 2026 (UTC)

Undo/cite/fix/whatever addition of FromSoftware to influences sentence
The third paragraph of the lede has, for many years, had a sentence saying:
- Several thematic and directorial elements were inspired by the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, David Lynch, Stephen King, Wes Craven and H. P. Lovecraft.
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stranger_Things&diff=next&oldid=1324231121 added "and FromSoftware" to the end of this list. There's no citation to the addition, and also no edit summary or talk page message.
It's certainly very plausible that this is both true and citable. For example, IIRC, the Duffer Brothers have admitted to borrowing sound cues from the first Dark Souls game as deeply hidden easter eggs in season 1, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they've also talked about taking "thematic and directorial elements" from the Dark Souls series, or from FromSoftware games more generally. But it's not cited at all.
Also, it's an addition to the end of a long-standing sentence--which, unfortunately, was also never cited. So it's also very plausible that Spielberg, Carpenter, Lunch, King, Craven, Lovecraft form a specific list that they specifically talked about multiple times, and that, even if they did talk about Dark Souls other times, they never included it in this list. In which case this sentence needs to be rewritten into a citable synthesis, or into separately cited claims, or something like that, not just edited from a close paraphrase into original research that sounds like a paraphrase but isn't.
PS, Apologies for copying and pasting the full URL for the edit like this; it looks wrong, but I don't know how to do it right.
PPS, The last time I tried to bring up a similar change on a Wikipedia page, multiple people responded that I should just create an edit request using the template. But the Wikipedia:Edit requests page (I hope I linked that right) explicitly says not to do that until after gaining consensus, except for uncontroversial things like typos. --~2025-43999-99 (talk) 19:14, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
Please consider putting the link to wormhole in the first paragraph, where it first occurs.
Instead of the second occurrence.

add Eduardo Franco to the role list as he was a main character in season 4 ~2026-63853-0 (talk) 17:45, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

Splitting proposal
I propose that the section about other media be split into a separate page called Stranger Things (franchise). The content of the section is only marginally related to the main article, and this section is large and well-sourced enough to make its own page. There is already a draft article in progress available at Draft: Stranger Things (franchise). Abdullateefsherani (talk) 03:12, 9 July 2025 (UTC)

Is Eduardo Franco a valid main actor
Eduardo Franco plays argyle in season 4, argyle plays a substantial role in saving the main cast and is important to the California half of the plot ~2026-63853-0 (talk) 17:49, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- He was not credited in the episodes as part of the main cast. Even if he was an important character, cast status is determined by the producers, not by screentime. -- Alex_21 TALK 20:22, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

section in the controversies section about will coming out...? and that whole episode in general
a lot of backlash happened against ep 7 apparently, and there are probably enough articles to add it -- should we add it here, or to will byers, or...? ~2025-43459-44 (talk) 09:11, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- It would make sense to add that part to the Will Byers section, buuuut might i suggest adding queerbaiting to the controversies section? I know there's a lot of argument over whether or not it actually counts as queerbait, but it is a huge controversy about the show. CharlieLovecats (talk) 15:55, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
- I would also say add it to the Will Byers page.
