what is the difference between a sraightedge and a ruler —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.213.24.184 (talk) 23:06, 10 September 2009 (UTC) A sraightedge may not necessarily have divisions marked on it and a ruler may not be truly straight in its edge.198.2.5.101 (talk)Reply

According to my old DT teacher way back at school, a Straight edge is for drawing, a ruler is for measuring. A straight edge doesn't have to have measurements on it.(Morcus (talk) 18:53, 30 December 2010 (UTC))Reply

why is this named in wikipedia as a single word?

[edit]

Until today i had never seen the term written as a single word, but always as straight edge. Some google searches tell me, that in drawing the two-word term is at least 10x more popular than its use as a single word. And it's almost three times as popular as the meaning promoted by hard core punks. Why do you let them own it, in wikipedia? -- 99.233.186.4 (talk) 19:44, 25 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please supply some links to your searches and we'd be more than glad to change it. Wizard191 (talk) 23:02, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Methods for making accurate straight edge

[edit]

There's a link but it's broken. How is it accomplished? Are there ancient methods to produce such a tool?
