Stilton → Stilton, Cambridgeshire – Stilton cheese is equally significant as the village: it is an internationally renowned British cheese with a long history, distinct cultural and economic significance, and protected status. Its significance extends well beyond the village itself, and it receives even more page views, so it can hardly be regarded as a secondary meaning of the term. "Stilton" should be a disambiguation page. ~2026-52709-10 (talk) 21:54, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose The place name rules on wikipedia are that you only add a disambiguation if there is more than one place with that name. The only other place is an unincorporated place in South Carolina, which based on wikipedia rules WP:GEOLAND doesn't have a page. The cheese is just that, cheese. The Oxford English Dictionary shows an etymology that demonstrates it was called Stilton cheese, not just plain Stilton until the 19th century, and the usage of both are concurrent. In fact it didn't actually enter the OED until 1917 as Stilton. In addition if you search Stilton on wikipedia you clearly see the two articles at the top of the search and it has a hatnote which clearly redirects people to the cheese. - @Davidstewartharvey As far as I know, this is not the rule on Wikipedia; for example, see Asiago. Could you please point me to the specific guideline you are referring to, and where it states this? If the place is considered the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, then there is no need for a disambiguation page. Otherwise, if there is no primary topic, a disambiguation page should be created. ~2026-52962-40 (talk) 06:56, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- WP:UKPLACE. Each geographical area has its own rules as per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names). There has been many a discussion on these over the years Davidstewartharvey (talk) 07:59, 2 October 2026 (UTC)

- The cheese is normally called just "Stilton" rather than "Stilton cheese" so per WP:ATDAB, WP:PRECISION and WP:UKPLACE there does appear to be a need to disambiguate even if the cheese is often called "Stilton cheese" enough for us to be able to use WP:NATURAL disambiguation. Given the OED calls it plain "Stilton" today it does seem like disambiguation is needed so given if anything the cheese could be primary ONEOTHER probably doesn't apply. Look at Southend-on-Sea for example, as you can see we have articles such as Southend (band), Southend, South Australia and Southend, Argyll but Southend goes to the city in Essex, see WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT. - Oppose. Disambiguation pages are only useful when there is more than two choices, which isn't the case here. Changing the page title to Stilton, Cambrideshire merely inconveniences those looking for the village with no gain to those looking for the cheese. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 08:11, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose there are two pages and little chance for confusion so a disambiguation page is unnecessary. If you search "Stilton" then the village and the cheese are the first two hits. 10mmsocket (talk) 10:48, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support this and also moving Stilton cheese to Stilton (so a primary topic swap). "Even more page views" is kind of an undersell here, it receives more than 8.5x the pageviews. The village has a population of less than 2,500; for reference, 7,500 tons of stilton cheese is produced a year. The cheese is more important. Ladtrack (talk) 18:00, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Move Stilton cheese to Stilton. Per above, the cheese is the clear primary topic. The cheese should be moved to the base name. Vpab15 (talk) 18:44, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support even though the village is the original meaning it seems if anything the cheese is primary but a DAB is probably the best choice. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:07, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
