The Star Finch (Neochmia ruficauda) a species of estrildid finch found in Australia. It inhabits dry grassland and dry savanna habitats. Despite its having been listed as Near Threatened in the wild it is a common aviary bird.Photo: JJ Harrison

Origin and phylogeny has been obtained by Antonio Arnaiz-Villena et al.^[1] Estrildinae may have originated in India and dispersed thereafter (towards Africa and Pacific Ocean habitats).

I removed the above section as off topic for a single species, the same paper is referenced at Estrildid finch. — cygnis insignis 05:04, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
