Feedback from New Page Review process

[edit]

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: Thanks for creating this page for a surgeon with notability (WP:NPROF) through named chair, as well as other contributions.

NPOV & COI concerns - Alternative medicine & pseudoscience

[edit]

The addition of this surgeon to wikipedia is obviously a benefit.

However, I think there are a few concerning aspects to the article as it stands.

  • Most fundamentally, all the references are to commercial sources where you can buy DMSO, the substance Dr. Jacob touted. (this is not too uncommon for a page on a drug or medicine, but is not kosher for a biography).
  • There is no mention made of the frequent conflicts between Dr. Jacob's forays into alternative medicine regarding DMSO and the medical community.

In order for people to make an appropriate judgment call on whether they wish to pursue treatment with some chemical, they must be accurately informed of the fullest understanding of the chemical's effects, and I believe right now this page is likely to just act as an advertisment for the linked vendors.

Thanks for weighing in on this.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.141.172.134 (talk) 15:02, 5 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the text that uses these sources to make claims about the effectiveness of his research. If someone can find sources about how Jacob's work was seen by the medical community, that can be added. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 20:54, 22 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
