Ethical Issues[edit]The secondary ticket market has long been a source of controversy for the ticket buying public, with many non-legitimate online brokers selling mis-advertised tickets which do not live up to the customers' expectations or simply fail to be delivered [1]. Such conduct is damaging to the secondary ticketing industry and in recent years has caused a loss of confidence in legitimate brokers among the concert going public[2]. This controversy came to its most poignant head in June 2009 when the news of Michael Jackson’s death caused panic among fans who’d bought tickets from secondary ticket brokers and feared they wouldn’t receive a full refund.[3] Stage Dive, Ticketmaster, Viagogo, Seatwave and several other brokers were quick to reassure their customers that they would receive a full refund for their ticket.[4]. However, other ticket websites would only offer to refund the face value of the ticket (which the customer would have paid considerably more than) and some failed to offer refunds at all (many such companies disappeared completely soon after).[5] References
