Types

In youtubes the MOLTEX people mention three types

• SSR-W
• SSR-U
• SSR-B

while our article currently mentions a fourth name

• SSR-Th

which may be one of those three, either a subtype or a synonym.

Berkelium

Hi, just a thought but one potential way to build a miniature (though short term) reactor for space use is a variant of this where berkelium is used in place of thorium. The advantage here is that its possible to make it in bulk using waste plutonium from nuclear weapons (reverse proliferation?!) and in its salt form is worthless unless inserted into a critical assembly. Acceleration is the key here as gravity is needed for circulation, but centrifugal force would also suffice. Launch it in a safe state with the rods in inert storage and salt in its solid (ie safe) form, and activate once in orbit. 78.111.195.1 (talk) 08:37, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

the sources listed are also primarily the company allegedly building these and their famously-aboveboard business partner SNC Lavalin; this seems like a legitimate possibility. 70.26.79.29 (talk) 20:21, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
