Is the name of the town spelled either Srivaikuntam or Srivaikundam?--User:Brenont (talk) 01:03, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

The official name of the town is still Srivaikuntam. Individuals influenced by Tamizhism have renamed the page with its other, historical, but unofficial and not commonly used (during the colonial era as nowadays) name of Thiruvaikuntam (they chose the rather more ‘British’ spelling TIRUvaikuntam by the way). I tried to rectify a mistake made by the sockpuppet account Haranari in July 2019, who renamed the page Srivaikuntam to Tiruvaikundam, claiming an official name change for this city. However, this was never effective, and to this day, the official name of the town as well as the most commonly used name is Srivaikuntam. Other spellings can be found online, and even used by officials (some government bodies, etc.) in accordance with certain rules or types of transliteration preferred by some Tamil literati, but Srivaikuntam is still the spelling legally in use (that's how India Post knows the town).

Frustrated by several blocks and complications to rename the page, I tried to temporarily rename the page with another spelling, the time to eliminate the redirect pages to its current name, but I failed the trick.
