James Bond film used Spademan bindings

[edit]

I've never been successful in adding anything to Wikipedia, so I'm posting this information under the Talk section: Today I learned it was Spademan ski bindings played an important part in the 1977 James Bond 007 movie, "The Spy Who Loved Me."

That film famously opened with a stuntman named Rick Sylvester snow-skiing off the edge of Mount Asgard. Without apparently touching the back of the ski bindings, the stuntman released is skis while in free-fall, and deployed a parachute.

How did the stuntman get his skis off in mid-air that way? All alpine bindings release with downward pressure, which doesn't happen while in Freefall.

If someone wanted to add this tidbit on the main section of the article about the Spademan bindings, I think it would be a fitting tribute to Dr. Spademan, the film, and to the stuntman.
