Slovak Cyrillic

As a native Slovak with a passion for history and Slavic linguistics, I can tell you that the idea of Slovak Cyrillic is a total fallacy. The Slovak language has never used the Cyrillic script, primarily because it has been in the Catholic, thus Latin, sphere rather than the Orthodox Cyrillic sphere. However, there was an attempt to use the Cyrillic script for Slovak on a Matica Slovenská seal, but it never materialised. Moreover, Cyrillic does not even match the Slovak alphabet, lacking letters such as Ŕŕ, Ĺĺ, Ww, Qq, Ä ä, Ô ô, as well as the palatalised and long letters. It also adds the letter Щ, which does not exist in Slovak. The IP address '188.167.56.234' made these changes. In conclusion, I can see why someone might think we use or used the Cyrillic script, given that we have Rusyns as a minority in our country. However, the transliterations of Latin Slovak into Cyrillic Slovak do not even match the Rusyn language, so it cannot be because of the Rusyn language. Korean991 (talk) 18:06, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

" Cyrillic does not even match the Slovak alphabet" Yes it does. Cyrillic doesn't have to be Russian Cyrillic.

Every sound the Slovak alphabet has, exists in Cyrillic. You mentioned: "ŕ", the Cyrillic equivalent would be "р́", "ĺ" in cyrillic would be "л́", "w" is "ў", "q" i never see this letter in Slovak but it can be "кв", "ä" is literally just "e", as for "ô" we can easily just copy-paste this one because its the only letter thats unique to Slovak out of all Slavic languages and "o" already looks the same in Cyrillic and Latin alphabets.

As for "Щ" who says it must be added?

First of all, not all Cyrillic alphabets are the same and they don't share the same letters for example the Serbian Cyrillic and the Belsrusian Cyrillic dont have this letter.

Second of all, this letter could easily be added because we have the "Št" in Slovak so it can represent that sound (it does exactly the same thing in Bulgarian). ~2025-35238-33 (talk) 16:18, 22 November 2025 (UTC)

Дь, Ть, Ль, Нь ...

i forgot to add that the "mäkčeň" (ˇ) is literally "ь", so by adding it to any letter you create the palatalised version of that letter, once again Russian has many such letters while Slovak has only a few. ~2025-35238-33 (talk) 16:26, 22 November 2025 (UTC)

I know that but the problem is that Slovak does not use the cyrillic alphabet which means that adding a cyrillic version of the Slovak alphabet would be a fictional edit. Technically Slovak could use glagolitic or even korean but it doesnt. BalmyCastle6415 (talk) 05:45, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
