Spending Habits

[edit]

died after he was born in Fort Wayne , I've heard the story that when Silkk's brother, Percy "Master P" Miller played basketball for the Fort Wayne Fury of the now-defunt Continental Basketball Association (CBA), that Silkk came to a game in Fort Wayne one time. While in Fort Wayne, he went to Glenbrook Square Mall and spent $10,000 in one night. I haven't heard much of the story in many years. But I was wondering if anyone had heard anymore details or this could be confirmed. --Dilk85.

Negative assessment by AllMusic

[edit]

It is a violation of WP:NPOV to delete the very negative assessments coming from AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine.

In his review of Made Man, Erlewine says that the album is formulaic and false, a symptom of the label churning out identical-sounding albums without a connection to what was happening on the street.

In his biography of Silkk, Erlewine says that Silkk is a creation of the label who marketed him aggressively, describing him as a superstar even before he released an album. Erlewine says Silkk is not a great rapper, that his music is full of clichés.

Similarly, AllMusic's Leo Stanley writes about the debut album, The Shocker, saying that Silkk is "unfocused", not a great rapper, and his music is "intolerable".

These negative reviews must be represented on the page. They cannot be buried or erased. Binksternet (talk) 22:29, 23 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

First of all, please show multiple WP:SECONDARY sources writing about him this way, not just one specific publication. Second, AllMusic may be acceptable as a source for a BLP, but describing a living person as a "marketing creation" in Wiki prose casts judgment on a subject in a way that goes against the criteria of WP:BLPSTYLE. While it may be acceptable to write about how AllMusic describes him by attributing this description to them, calling a BLP subject a "marketing creation" in Wikivoice is problematic.
While I can see the problems with my removal of the prose about the negative reviews (though I maintain there should be multiple third-party publications to support this, as opposed to just one website), I do believe that WP:BLP applies in the case of the "marketing creation" comment, and should not be restored unless consensus is established for inclusion per BLP and WP:ONUS. JeffSpaceman (talk) 23:52, 23 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
There is no requirement for multiple sources on this. The professional reviews on AllMusic are a very reliable source.
The important signal from you is that you are removing AllMusic in its entirety. Your other words here ring hollow in the face of that action. How is it possible that you think AllMusic's negative reviews should not be present? Binksternet (talk) 01:16, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I am not disagreeing on reliability. The problem is that the current prose makes it seem as though there is a general consensus on Silkk's music being panned, when all you have provided is one website and no others. Looking through the reviews on the articles for the two albums, I would say they appear more mixed (see the reviews outlined at Charge It 2 da Game and Made Man (album)), but this is also WP:OR on my part, and it needs to be verifiable that the reception is slanted one way or another, not by synthesizing the content of sources. Beyond that, a single source is not enough to prove general reception one way or another.
My other words do not "ring hollow" because I made one editing decision you disagree with. Calling a living person a "marketing creation" is a POV statement that has no place on a BLP, and WP:BLPRESTORE and WP:BLP3RR absolutely apply to your continued restorations of that biased comment, citation notwithstanding. BLPRESTORE explicitly states: "When material about living persons has been removed on good-faith BLP objections, any editor wishing to add, restore, or undelete it must ensure it complies with Wikipedia's content policies. If it is to be restored without significant change, consensus must be obtained first." Consensus is required for inclusion on a BLP, and you are very apparently choosing to disregard this (and WP:ONUS) all because I removed content that made relatively universal claims about general reception, when it was only being backed up by a single website. To avoid edit warring, I will leave the content about the negative reception of the album in place for now -- though I will note your dispute with me at Talk:Bad (album)#"Of all time", where you pointed out to me that ONUS directs the editor who wants to keep disputed content to get consensus for it, and yet you are not following that in this inverse case -- but I believe that my objections to the BLP problem with calling a living person a "marketing creation" are valid, and the article should not retain it. One of our citations in the page is Complex magazine listing seven ways that Silkk fails as a rapper. The piece is extremely negative, but none of that negativity makes it into the biography for some reason. The magazine says Silkk "spit the weakest verses" on songs with multiple artists, and his frequent attempts to imitate 2pac are bad. The magazine says it is "impossible to discern whatever measure of rap talent Master P saw in his little brother." It says he cannot keep a beat, and goes on to list seven times the beat gets lost in his music.
The first time that the Complex magazine piece was added to the page was in January 2024. The editor said that Silkk's debut album had a "generally unfavorable reception" but somehow that phrase shifted later to describe his second and third albums.
Spin magazine says "Silkk is no great rapper..."
In 2015, HipHopWired asked the question, "Is Silkk The Shocker The Worst Rapper Of All Time?"
SoulInStereo rated Silkk the eighth worst rapper "of all time" in 2015.
In 2024, RapReviews said about Silkk, "The most polite way I could describe his rhyme style is 'spastic' and the most rude would be 'hot garbage.' He flows like molasses in January—slowly or not at all. He starts and stops at ridiculous times while rapping with a method that I’ve never understood. Is it because he has no breath control? Is it because his brain can’t process the words he’s saying fast enough?"
In 2025, VladTV covered the internet controversy over Youtuber Wil Milz ranking Silkk as the worst rapper.
Something about all this should appear in the biography. Purposely removing negativity is a whitewash. Binksternet (talk) 04:58, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for citing these multiple sources. I agree that all this is due for inclusion in the biography, and will hopefully rework some of the article to meet what is written in these sources. I appreciate you offering these citations. JeffSpaceman (talk) 09:28, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I can't find the statement about the debut receiving generally negative reviews in the Complex source, though. I think this was potentially WP:OR on that editor's part, and should not be included. JeffSpaceman (talk) 09:37, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm getting a little stumped as to how we should incorporate this content and cite it in the article. Where do you think would be the best place to cite these sources in the article body? Or do you think that creating a new section about this negative reception would work? I have my doubts about the latter method per WP:BLPBALANCE, but I do think you have brought some worthwhile sources to the table. (Though the VladTV one seems questionable for inclusion on a BLP, since one could argue its status as an interview violates WP:BLPSPS, but feel free to dispute this if you see fit.)
