Survival Horror description

[edit]

Because nearly universally other sources have described the game as survival horror, I have noted it was a survival horror game in the article body. That said, one of the developers was unsure if the game truly counts as horror.[1] However, only one third party source kind of shares this sentiment, as GameSpot described the game as "never actually scary" in their review.[2] This may be useful information for the reader, but I'm unsure how to articulate it without sounding contradictory. Story synopsis

[edit]

This game has many vague elements requiring interpretation, and I don't think the current synopsis accurately reflects anything but one editor's idea of events. It may be better to only present a brief description of the game's premise. 2601:240:E380:89E0:9DCA:5BD0:A3E6:59E4 (talk) 23:52, 13 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, and I have made some changes to that end in this revision: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Signalis&oldid=1185156160
A key point I want to call out is that, no matter how heavily a definition may be implied, neither the game nor rose-engine defines anywhere an explicit definition for Ariane and Elster's promise, and it remains open to interpretation.
For instance: there's not actually an extremely compelling reason to believe Elster successfully follows through on the promise in the "Promise" ending versus misunderstanding it, avoiding it, or recognizing that she has failed to satisfy it and needs to restart the time loop to try again. Neither the name of the ending nor the brief, vague dialogue between the characters are quite enough to prove anything in particular. There's no way to be totally sure that Ariane requested euthanasia, and implications are not enough to justify telling the reader that the euthanasia theory is definitely true.
Alternative interpretations exist that suggest the promise is not euthanasia, that the "Promise" ending serves only to restart the time loop, and that the "Artifact" ending is the one that satisifies the promise (which is something different from euthanasia). Those theories are equally as plausible as long as a canonical definition of the promise does not exist.
Until rose-engine or the game states something to the effect of "Our promise is [X]" or "Through [X], Elster fulfills the promise", then it's impossible to prove or refute any theory, and attempts to do so only run afoul of this article's own statement that the uncertain elements of the plot are open to interpretation. I heartily concur. Absent the Word of God we have hypotheses, and no one ever said puzzles had to have neat solutions. This is also in keeping with its being in part a psychological thriller. kencf0618 (talk) 15:22, 12 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Gantz

[edit]

It it worth adding somewhere that the character's armour is a 1:1 copy of the armour found in the series "Gantz"? 90.240.45.237 (talk) 02:24, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

"German" survival horror game

[edit]

Genuine question, why does the article start by saying the game is German? Is this standard fare? Looking at other games, I see things like "2018 action-adventure survival game", "1997 role-playing video game". We wouldn't put American or Japanese into those ones, just wondering why it is written like that. Iokerapid (talk) 02:41, 31 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

"The game was developed by the two person German studio rose-engine", and Ostalgie is a prominent motif. kencf0618 (talk) 01:40, 15 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

"Yuri"

[edit]

I find the use of the term yuri in the synopsis to be strange as the linked article for it describes it as "... a genre of Japanese media ..." however the lede of this article clearly states the game is German and, I would assume, lesbian is a far more common description of such themes (but this might just be personal bias I suppose)

Basically I just wonder, if for clarity and accuracy, yuri should be changed to lesbian (or some similar term)

I do realize the reference used the term yuri instead of lesbian however ~2026-29673-47 (talk) 16:56, 17 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think that either term would be correct here. The source uses the term "yuri", and Signalis obviously takes heavy inspiration from anime. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 14:48, 23 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
