I wrote this article from a purely formal, combinatorial point of view. Improvements from an expert in dynamical systems would be welcome. fudo (questions?) 21:04, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I changed the field in the rating box from Geometry to Discrete maths; other good choices could be Applied maths or even Analysis, but in my opinion it has little to do with geometry. fudo (questions?) 13:47, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

In the definitions section, the second part of the definition of a subshift says

$\sigma (X)=X$

However, there is no previous mention of the variable $X$ . Did someone mean to write the following:

$\sigma (S)=S$
