That wasn't VANADALISM

[edit]

That wasn't VANADALISM, 2nd Doctor should have his own page not a redirect to Patrick Troughton and that has been done for the Seventh, Sixth, Fourth and Ninth Doctors so why not this one too?--84.12.150.235 13:18, 10 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

We're currently working on the other Doctor articles (see User:Bjwebb/Doctor Articles) --Jawr256 13:24, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

"Both Peter Davison and Colin Baker, who played the Fifth Doctor and Sixth Doctor respectively, have stated that the Second Doctor is their favourite."

[edit]

Worth mentioning, perhaps, but not under Story Style? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.17.57.24 (talk) 21:50, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tenure start date

[edit]

The infobox lists the Second Doctor's tenure as starting on 29 October 1966, the date he appeared in the final episode of The Tenth Planet. For internal consistency within the infobox, and to match the table at The Doctor (Doctor Who) § Actors, I think the date should be 5 November 1966, when the first episode of The Power of the Daleks aired.--Trystan (talk) 18:24, 30 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Will take this on in the coming days. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 01:53, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Six GA Criteria

[edit]

1. Article is well-written. Very minimal mistakes if any at all.

2. No OR, all info is cited in the article.

3. Coverage is broad in depth and focus. Shows multiple aspects of the character.

4. Article appears neutral, and does not appear to hold a significantly negative nor positive stance on the subject.

5. Article appears stable. Does not appear to have had any major vandalism occur.

6. Article uses one fair use image with proper rationale.

Lead

[edit]

-"The Second Doctor would be colloquially dubbed "the monster Doctor" for the prevalence of new and returning monsters in his episodes." Perhaps briefly define what a monster is in the series? Something like, "which often serve as antagonists in the story".

-"would undergo a critical reevaluation" Perhaps state it was a positive reevaluation for clarity?

Biography

[edit]

-"which the Doctor attempts to forewarn" Wording here feels a bit weird; perhaps change to "which the Doctor tries to warn against due to the Daleks' evil nature"?

-"later introduced in The Invasion." Perhaps alter to "starting in The Invasion"?

-"a librarian from the 21st century," In the lead she is defined as an astrophysicist; I would make this consistent if possible.

-"including The Three Doctors (1973), "The Five Doctors" (1983) and The Two Doctors (1985)" Given these are all of his subsequent appearances, I'd just cut this since the the statement of "reappearances in later episodes" probably suffices here.

-Would it be possible to briefly recap his role in the above stories in the "Biography" section? Given he appears in them and these later appearances are relevant to other sections, I'd imagine incorporating some details, even if light, would be helpful.

-"which gives Polly's surname as Wright for the first time outside of her original character outline." I'd remove this, it seems a bit irrelevant to discussion of the Second Doctor and seems more relevant to specifically Polly's character.

-Any information on audios, even if it's light? Feels odd not to include a brief mention of at least The Second Doctor Adventures given he heads multiple ranges iirc. Even a statement like "The Second Doctor appears in a variety of audio dramas produced by Big Finish, such as in the series..." would suffice.

Development

[edit]

-Looks good overall. I believe I have a book at home that has some more info on Troughton's replacement of Hartnell so I'll see if I can add to that a little later.

  • Most of this, as it turns out, was covered by A History, and I've expanded on the info there, though I added a snippet from Inside the TARDIS there to help support this. Let me know what you think about it.

Reception

[edit]

-Looks solid.

Spotcheck

[edit]

-Checked sources 13, 18, 19, 23, 24, 31, 32, 34, 37, 39, 40, 43, 51, 53, 59, 66, 67, 72, 76, 79.

Source 24 does not reference Michael Troughton playing the Doctor in the audios. 23 does reference this though so I'd include it at the end of the statement referencing him.

Could you give me a quote from 51/53? Additionally 59 I would appreciate a quote for as well. Otherwise all other spotchecked sources have checked out.

I would archive all references if possible.

Overall

[edit]

@Doomitron: Review complete. I will try to incorporate the things I stated above as soon as possible, but for now ping me when the above are dealt with. Let me know if I can clarify anything if possible. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 23:44, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Pokelego999: Hey so I accidentally lost the password for my old account of Doomitron a few months back (and never set an email to recover it pretty foolishly, whoops) and kind of took it as an opportunity to allow Wikipedia editing to fade in my life since its pretty time-consuming, but I have been routinely checking back in-and-out of my GA noms for Doctor No. 2 and a film I edited the page for extensively just so my old account's accidental inactivity doesn't possibly jeopardize their potential nominations. I believe its okay to step in and implement your requested changes from here? I can answer for the citations and everything else just making sure its kosher to be having this other account speak for the posthumorous one that originally nominated it, just making sure the process doesn't get unnecessarily interrupted due to the external circumstances of my own doing. Obviously I don't think I can prove I'm formerly Doomitron but I don't think that necessarily means I can't pick up from where he (me) left off and finish the job here, but I just wanted to clarify he won't be responding, and I have taken the proper precautions to ensure I won't be losing access to this current account, if this helps. Let me know and I'll start working on the stuff you've outlined for changing. RamónSalamander (talk) 02:30, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@RamónSalamander I believe this situation would fall under Wikipedia:COMPSOCK? But I am unfortunately largely unfamiliar with the process for this sort of thing. I would try to follow the steps there and contact an admin of some kind, if possible. Otherwise, once that is settled, I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to continue this so long as no one else has a problem. I'll place this review on hold for the time being while this is being addressed, best of luck on your end. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 04:15, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Pokelego999: Apologies for the delay, I have emailed the website admins to help clear up anything necessary due to the nominating account's compromise. Once I hear from them on what steps to take forward I'll happily finish what's needed here to get this article to GA status. RamónSalamander (talk) 05:45, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
In the meantime I have included your requested changes and additions for the lead and Biography, let me know how they look especially the prose for the Second Doctor appearances in Three, Five and Two Doctors. I can't guarantee I'll be able to find many sources of his audios due to reliable sources on Big Finish being sparse in my experience after the mid-2010s, if possible maybe identify Season 6B as audios in its title instead? Up to you. I'll follow up on spotcheck later. RamónSalamander (talk) 07:10, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@RamónSalamander For audios, just a mention like "The Second Doctor appeared in audio dramas by Big Finish" or something should suffice for me. So long as some mention is clear I am satisfied. Overall the prose changes look okay. Do let me know how the messaging with the admins goes and your reply regarding the spotcheck. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 17:09, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Pokelego999: Just updating to keep the nom active, I haven't received word back from the admins yet. I'm going to update the page for the audios and do the spotcheck and after I presume if there isn't any further issues with the article you could likely just assume the Doomitron account is still the primary account credited for it and have it passed that way. I checked the GA nom rules page and I believe there isn't any barriers to that, so long as the nom requirements were met and it doesn't have to have been met by the nominating account itself. I'll get these things done before the end of the day. RamónSalamander (talk) 16:01, 21 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@RamónSalamander Yes, I believe it should be fine for unrelated editors to address the GAN suggestions, including if the nominator is inactive. Feel free to ping me when this is addressed. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 19:05, 21 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Pokelego999: For spotcheck, of course this is using the revision of the article prior to when you first made your review, so the version prior to 7 September, so the reference tags don't match up now:

- 51: "Despite being tired, he remembered his three years as Doctor Who with great fondness: 'Of all my years as an actor, I think they were the happiest three years. I particularly enjoyed acting with Frazier Hines, who played Jamie [Troughton's main companion in the series for all but his first story]. We never once had a cross word all the time we worked together.'" There's another anecdote from Hines featured about his relationship with Troughton after the snippet I took that I can add here if requested.

- 53: "Hailing from the Scottish highlands in the eighteenth century, Jamie was one of the Doctor's longest serving companions. He journeyed alongside the Doctor for almost the entirety of one of his lives, a feat that few others have achieved."

- 59: "[talking about the Eleventh Doctor]...in fact his whole costume could be interpreted as a riff (albeit a contemporary, skinny-fit one) on the Second Doctor's look, with Smith's gun-club tweed jacket and black jeans effectively inverting Troughton's black coat and houndstooth trousers."

Let me know of anything else, I believe I've met all the other requested changes. RamónSalamander (talk) 13:12, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@RamónSalamander I believe this should be good to go. Happy to pass, and best of luck with your account situation if you choose to continue to edit. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 04:16, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
