Hmm... I find it plastered all over reddit and various social media websites, but this only gets a passing mention in press articles (i.e. "They ridiculed it for having overly strict chat filters, which they said sometimes censored innocuous words..." In Bloomberg here, ironically followed by "...yet didn’t catch acronyms such as “erp” (for “erotic role play”), and for failing to detect avatars with absurdly large genitalia or simulating sex in digital toilet stalls.") —Mint Keyphase (Did I mess up? I have recovered what I know to be the earliest reference to this being called "The Clbuttic Mistake": https://what.thedailywtf.com/topic/2302/the-clbuttic-mistake I think this is probably a better historical reference than the one from 2023. I also want to point out that this was a common occurrence in Forum moderation due to the typical text-replacement filters available to admins at the time. Executive Order 14332?

Would the various effects of Trump's Executive Order 14332: Improving Oversight of Federal Grantmaking count as this?

Technically speaking, there's no federal "banned words list" based solely on the terminology in the order, but in practice, because of the stipulations there seems to be one. Considering that changing titles nets better results (and given the sheer volume grant administrators are dealing with) it seems like it sort of counts (and like there must be keyword filtering). But, it's also not exactly the same situation, so I could see either way. Hmm. Also, hope this kind of citation is okay on a talk page. (Good practice citing, if nothing else...)

Question re: the Genshin Impact bullet

Okay, one more little addition if anyone's watching this... I added some stuff about Chinese filtering on game chats. I feel like the bullet is WAY TOO LONG, because I was trying to get across that Genshin is really only one example of the same problem happening across the entire (particularly mobile) game industry since it's dominated by China/people selling to the Chinese market. BUT, "how ridiculous this gets" are actually best documented on things like Reddit, which aren't Good Sources, so I got really circular to try and be able to bring in how this happens in other places. Suggestions?
