Lowercase

- Update: I'm pretty sure it'a reference to the applied Salsa algorithm, analogous to bcrypt being a reference to the applied Blowfish algorithm. And of course the crypt comes from UNIX password hashing.
Real-World Usage

- Litecoin is also a significant user (although it uses a modified scrypt-based hash IIRC).
