Request to update biography and discography (COI disclosure)

I am Scott Kinsey, the subject of this article,

so I am disclosing my conflict of interest and requesting that an independent editor review these proposed corrections and additions rather than making substantial edits to the article myself.

The existing biography appears to contain some outdated or incomplete information, particularly concerning my tenure with Tribal Tech, solo recordings, and later work involving the music of Joe Zawinul.

Tribal Tech correction

The article should state that I joined Tribal Tech in 1991, not 1993.

Independent sources support 1991. John Kelman’s 2006 All About Jazz review of ‘‘Kinesthetics’’ states that Kinsey joined Tribal Tech shortly after graduating from Berklee in 1991. A 2006 All About Jazz interview similarly describes Tribal Tech as the first band Kinsey joined after college.

Suggested wording:

“After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 1991, Kinsey moved to Los Angeles and joined Tribal Tech that year, becoming part of the band’s longtime lineup with guitarist Scott Henderson, bassist Gary Willis and drummer Kirk Covington.”

For disclosure, my actual starting date with Tribal Tech was May 1991, but because I have not found a strong independent published source verifying the specific month, I am requesting only that the article use “1991.”

Career section

I would appreciate an editor considering expansion of the Career section to better reflect the independently documented chronology of my work, rather than relying primarily on a list of collaborators.

Possible neutral wording:

“Kinsey graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1991 and subsequently moved to Los Angeles, joining Tribal Tech that year. He recorded and toured with the group for approximately two decades. His recordings with Tribal Tech include ‘‘Illicit’’ (1992), ‘‘Face First’’ (1993), ‘‘Reality Check’’ (1995), ‘‘Thick’’ (1999), ‘‘Rocket Science’’ (2000), and the reunion album ‘‘X’’ (2012).

Kinsey released his debut recording as a leader, ‘‘Kinesthetics’’, on Abstract Logix in 2006. ‘‘Near Life Experience’’ followed in 2016.

Kinsey also developed a musical association with Joe Zawinul. He worked on Zawinul’s ‘‘Faces & Places’’ and subsequently served as musical director of the Zawinul Legacy Band.

In 2019, Kinsey released ‘‘We Speak Luniwaz: The Music of Joe Zawinul’’ on Whirlwind Recordings, interpreting compositions associated with Zawinul and Weather Report alongside original material.

In 2024, Whirlwind Recordings released ‘‘Luniwaz Live’’, recorded at Jazz Dock in Prague.”

I would also welcome an editor reducing the long list of musicians and celebrities currently associated with the Career section. A more concise, independently sourced narrative of Tribal Tech, solo recordings, production work, the Zawinul association, Human Element and ARC Trio would, in my view, be more encyclopedic.

I am happy to provide additional sources or clarify factual details, but because I am the subject of the article I will leave decisions regarding wording, weight and inclusion to uninvolved Wikipedia editors.
