"population of 13 houses"??

[edit]

A "population of x houses" sounds absurd, IMO.

Also, from what I know from Hütteroth and Abdulfattah: they talk of hana, or households as the taxed unit, Huldra (talk) 22:50, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

The word "Hane" means "House", while the word "Ev halkı" might point to "Household". However, I would agree that "a population of x houses" does sound inappropriate. Thank you.--Historyfeelings (talk) 13:31, 23 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well, Hütteroth and Abdulfattah translate hana/mujarrad as family heads/bachelors. (I don't speak/read Arabic myself, so I have to rely on others, there). I’m trying to add all the info from Hütteroth and Abdulfattah to the different articles, (see User:Huldra/HA) but, as you can see, Liwa Aljun is the one Liwa I haven't done anything on. The two Bakhit & Hamud articles look interesting, do they list all the different villages? Huldra (talk) 21:25, 23 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Comparing several books, I think "household" is the best word as long as it means "a house and its occupants". On the other hand, I would say that Bakhit & Hamud's books are the best books which describe the Ottoman era in Trans-Jordan.--Historyfeelings (talk) 21:59, 23 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ok, in what language are they? Arabic? I’m afraid I understand neither that, nor Turkish, Huldra (talk) 23:02, 23 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Also, the date of the Zeitschrift des Deutschen Palästina-Vereins reference is wrong, I think. It isn't 1878, is it?Huldra (talk) 23:06, 23 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Harvard referencing style suggests this form: DEUTSCHER VEREIN ZUR ERFORSCHUNG PALÄSTINAS. (1878). Zeitschrift des Deutschen Palästina-Vereins. Yet, if you see any reference/info should be fixed/edited kindly go ahead. --Historyfeelings (talk) 00:24, 24 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ok, right. I have never bothered to spend any time on, shall we say, technicalities, so I’m not good at it, at all. Huldra (talk) 20:10, 24 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
