Rumi was born in Balkh, in present-day Afghanistan. However, incorrect information is currently presented on the Wikipedia page, which claims he was born in Wakhsh (present-day Tajikistan). This claim is historically and factually inaccurate. Please change his place of birth to Balkh, Afghanistan.

Addition of Rumi’s "Aslem Turkest" Rubai to the "Life" Section

Proposed Text/Change:

I would like to propose the inclusion of one of Rumi's own quatrains (rubai) where he explicitly refers to his origins. This verse provides crucial primary-source context to the ongoing academic discussion regarding his identity.

The Verse (Transliteration & Translation):

“Bigâne megîrîd merâ zîn kûyem

Der kûy-i şumâ hâne-i hod mîcûyem

Düşmen neyem her çend ki düşmen rûyem

Aslem Türkest egerçi Hindû gûyem”

English Translation:

"Do not consider me a stranger, I am from this land;

I seek my own home in your quarters.

Although I may look like an enemy, I am not;

My origin is Turk, even though I speak 'Hindu' (metaphor for Persian/Foreign)."

Reason for Request:

While Rumi wrote primarily in Persian, this specific verse is frequently cited by scholars (such as those from the Turkish Historical Society and various Rumi experts) as evidence of his self-identification with Turkic heritage. Adding this would provide a more balanced view of how Rumi defined himself, alongside the existing information about his Persian literary output and birthplace in Balkh.
