what to

I was somewhat unclear about something (which is actually common to all packet compression techniques) and I thought it might worth be edited into the article. It has to do that the compressed header is useless for routing/forwarding etc. So when you take an FTP/TCP/IP packet and ROHC it, you still need a MAC header to carry the ROHC'ed packet. In no way can a packet which underwent ROHC be routed by a L3 router. 192.114.175.2 (talk) 06:23, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Patents

Now that this is over, for the record:

1. ROHC v1 (RFC 3096, 2001) - patent disaster
2. ROHC v2 (RFC 5225, 2008) - better but no cigar yet (last patent expired in 2025)
3. ROHC-TCP (RFC 6846, 2013) - OK
