Change from Airigh to Add

[edit]

Does anyone know of any sources that mention the change from Airigh to Add as the name of the river? The 1903 OS map uses Add, so it must have been before that, and I wonder why it would have caused confusion prior to that date. There are lots of mentions on the web, but all seem to derive from Wikipedia. Bob1960evens (talk) 16:58, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Nelson's Handbook to Scotland for Tourists, published in 1860, calls it Add Water, while Roy's Military Map of 1750 calls it Water of Add. Bob1960evens (talk) 17:32, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
