[edit]

This is another "Don't have time" item. I came here because I heard on a YouTube aerodynamics clip a mention of winglets and their inventor "Dick" Whitcomb. When I looked for "Dick" it came up with a footballer or cricketeer or something. Obviously "Richard" worked. This contributor thinks adding Richard "Dick" Whitcomb to appropriate cross-refrences and disambiguation lists would be helpful. If I find something more definite that refers to RW as R"D"W ...etc, you get where I'm coming from. --no citation--can't quickly see where else to add a note like this--  Preceding unsigned comment added by ReedScarce (talkcontribs) 10:52, 8 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

I don't have time right now to edit the page directly and add this, so this is a placeholder. Or if someone else wants to add these to the article, or build upon them, please do.

Excellent NASA history article (more like a book chapter) on Whitcomb and the area rule:

Shorter citation:

And a current events item:

http://www.newsdaily.com/Science/UPI-1-20071212-17064400-bc-us-whitcomb.xml (this one is likely ephemeral, so shouldn't be inserted in the Wikipedia article)

Story on pg. 3 of this file may have longer persistence on the web:
