Name origins
[edit]The section on naming origins is inconsistent, unsupported and feels very unlikely. The claim of South Asian naming origins due to the governor general's service in India is especially poor. Rama may be a deity name, but Mara means "death?" Why would this seem to be a good name for a newly created town? This feels entirely coincidental, like someone searched the names online and came up with this origin story. It certainly isn't "likely."
From an Occam's razor approach, the Spanish origin theory seems more likely in light of other towns in the region like Orillia, Oro, Mono. Though there is a lack of historical proof for the origins of most of these names given the haphazard way things were surveyed and named in the early 19th century. I would suggest removing the claim of (east) Indian origins, without some evidence. Waronmugs (talk) 14:43, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
