New Franchise

Wouldn't the Quebec Athletics be a new franchise? It seems that the Quebec Bulldogs were cancelled in 1918/19, and the Athletics were a new franchise that debuted for the 1919/20 season. So shouldn't the Quebec Athletics get thier own article separate from this one? Wikieditor9117 (talk) 20:19, 25 December 2025 (UTC)

There were only three people that participated in that discussion. Goodday seemed to be OK with it saying the Bulldogs and Athletics should be treated like the Coyotes and Mammoth which are considered seperate franchises. You were the only one that wasn't. So including me that's 2-1 in favor of a seperate article. And that statement from me proves the flaw in the GNG guideline. Where articles that shouldn't exist do but articles that should exist dont.Wikieditor9117 (talk) 17:32, 27 December 2025 (UTC)

It is not a "flaw in the guideline", rather it reflects consensus at the time. Please understand the difference. When determining consensus, please see WP:DETCON with respect to the quality of arguments based on Wikipedia policies. No policies were cited in favour of the change. The GNG states in it's opening sentence that a subject for an article should have "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". The second point in regards to Significant coverage states "Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material." This contradicts the need for a book to be exclusively about the source material. Coverage in reliable sources that are not necessarily focusing solely on the subject in question seems to ok what with the guidelines are stating. In other words an entire book about the Athletics ("main topic of the source material") is not needed. That coverage in reliable sources (in the three books that I mentioned in my previous post) seem to be OK as in those three books the Athletics are not the main topic of the books but the information about the team in the books go beyond simple trivial mention.Wikieditor9117 (talk) 18:01, 27 December 2025 (UTC)

I disagree there is enough coverage in these books to amount to anything significant for GNG. Please consider expanding this article with said sources and see what results. A valuable source might be newspapers at the National Archives of Quebec. Once expanded, this can be revisited. In a worst-case scenario, this article is improved. Best wishes. For clarity, I suggest expanding this article with new sources listed above then determine if it qualifies for splitting. Signing up for the Wikipedia Library might provide more newspaper sources. Flibirigit (talk) 17:34, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
