Why were (are) they called Q-pits? Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 02:22, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

The pits were created by removing soil to create a depression about 12-13 feet (4m) in diameter, breached by a 'spout' and thus forming a 'Q' shape Rosser Gruffydd
