The content of Punkah wallah was merged into Punkah on 25 June 2021. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists. For the discussion at that location, see its talk page.

The word is Punkha, not Punkah

The word 'Pankha' originated from 'Pankh', the wings of a bird, which produce a draft when flapped. Pankahwalah is actually islamisation of an Indian word, probably by the Europeans, mainly the British, who would regularly jumble up pronunciation of the words of the subcontinent.
