[edit]Pular is one of the most "different" varieties of Fula. I had an interesting time adjusting to it after speaking Fulfulde of Maasina (Mali) for a couple of years. Nevertheless, it is useful to keep pages dealing with all the Fula tongues under one umbrella, or somehow linked. To the latter end I added a link in the text.
As for "Wikification," it may be useful to consider whether part of this page should not be a "phrases" page and/or added to http://wikitravel.org/en/Guinea . A12n 00:13, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Long form pronouns
[edit]Thanks to 84.114.48.166 for the edits to the list of alternate forms in Pular. I only know them from hearing them occasionally - are they all considered colloquial or non-standard? Is there a need for three columns - the "pan-Fula" form, the "standard" Pular variants, and "non-standard"? Personally I thought that two columns should suffice - that (1) the pan-Fula forms are also operant in Pular Fuuta, and (2) the hi- forms are options in common speech. Pula Futa
[edit]Hi, I’m questioning the label of ‘pula futa’ as dubious. That’s the name in Fula. Here is a source for it, but honestly it’s hard to find sources as there’s not that much writing by Fula peoples on their own language in English. I speak Pulaar, the Fulakunda dialect, and can confirm this is the name for the Guinean dialect. Veluciraptor (talk) 21:02, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Veluciraptor, hello! Apologies for the delay in replying. I am the editor who originally made the edit describing the term "Pula Futa" as dubious. Admittedly I don't have a background in this language nor do I have extensive knowledge on it, but just based on a quick Google search, there is a book here using the term "Pulaar Fuuta Jalon" mentioned in the infobox of the article, as well as a significant body of reliable sources such as Ethnologue using the term "Pular". Outside of the one blog post you mentioned, I have still not seen any sources mentioning the use of the term "Pula Futa" as a name for this language. While it's nice to have a personal confirmation that the name is used, as well as evidence from the blog, neither of those are verifable, reliable sources, and so for the time being until a verifiable, reliable source is found mentioning the term "Pula Futa", I will keep the "dubious" tag on the term. --Vbhggrr (talk) 21:19, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
