The article lists upheld protests, which did not occur in that game, as the Athletics went on to win it. From Retrosheet: "Melvin played the game under protest, which was thrown out due to the Athletics victory", see additional info in this play-by-play summary. Protest rule gone in 2020

The 2021 OBR 7.04 states: "Protesting a game shall never be permitted, regardless of whether such complaint is based on judgment decisions by the umpire or an allegation that an umpire misapplied these rules or otherwise rendered a decision in violation of these rules." This is not listed as a 2021 rule change, and protests were still allowed in the 2019 rules, so I think it's a 2020 rule change. (MLB did not publish a 2020 rule book.) Other sports

This is also a rule in other sports in leagues. The NBA still has it on its record books. FIFA also seems to have a similar procedure but cannot find it as I don't know the correct terminology, but games have been overturned. Howard the Duck (talk) 10:24, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
