Ness

[edit]

I'm not sure if a promontory is the same thing as a "ness". Dictionaries seem to all assign an element of height to a promontory, but many of the nesses around britain have very little or no height at all. It seems the important element of a "ness" is it's lateral projection into the sea, but a Promontory needs to have an abrupt change in altitude. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewcgirling (talkcontribs) 08:13, 25 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Pylos

[edit]

Under the "Promontories in history" section, consider including the fortification of the promontory on Pylos (Koryphasion) in the Peloponnese by the Athenians in 425 BC as this played a very significant role in the Peloponnesian War. Jackolow (talk) 22:16, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
