Dubious claims
[edit]Most of the claims for "the oldest" and "the largest" for this specific tree are over-blown. Before its loss, it was not a widely known tree. It doesn't appear in most of the standard sources for oldest/largest trees, or trees in the UK. It was certainly "large" and "old", but there is nothing solid to indicate that it was the largest or oldest, merely recentist reaction to a narrow news story.
