Page rename

[edit]

Due to the prominence of this fire I believe it should be renamed "Pidgeon Valley Fire" and a separate article created for the unrelated smaller fires. This will avoid the grouping of the fires and follow the example of other large fires having their own pages. 04:27, 5 September 2020 (UTC)  Preceding unsigned comment added by Enigma28 (talkcontribs)

I am a little out of the loop, do the small fires need their own page or do they only have notoriety due to the larger fires? We should have a redirect at the least. I would be a fan of one page "Pidgeon Valley Fire" with subsections mentioning smaller fires, keeping redirect for Nelson fires 2019. Dushan Jugum (talk) 09:56, 18 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

I would be a fan of renaming it to "Pidgeon Valley Fire" as was the actual name of the fire. The current name creates confusion and is just Nelson trying to overwrite the significance. The smaller fires that were a result of arson should be separated into a new article. They don't relate to the main fire. Enigma28 (talk) 21:37, 23 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

The pidgeon valley fire was not the largest NZ fire in history at the time of writing.

Hey guys, the Raetihi Fire of 1918 was the largest in NZ history in terms of area, some estimated 40,000 hectares. In terms of property damage it wins the race too. ~2025-33191-63 (talk) 22:20, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
