Most of the content came to the article in this edit which does not cite a source for the content. Since it was from an anon and unformatted there's a good chance it's copyvio or undesirable in some way and I just want to make sure everyone is aware. gren グレン 05:55, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

You're correct. Also, "stalk", "stall", and "still" are cognates (PIE stel-, "put"). "Stoll", as far as I can tell, isn't even a word on it's own, it's a variant of one of several other words, of which "stool", is the only one that fits the claimed topic, and that's cognate with all the other "stand" words. So we've got "stand" words", "put" words, "stake" (like "stick", a "stick" word), and "stare" (a "stiff" word). That's at most four origins, which makes the length of that list deceptive in terms of establishing the validity of the phonestheme.

But if this list comes from the source to illustrate the "st-" phonestheme, it isn't clear to me what we should do about it. Largoplazo (talk) 13:14, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
