1-Aminopentane → Pentylamine – The common name is either pentylamine or amylamine, but certainly is not aminopentane, based on CAS, Pubchem, Aldrich, Google Scholar, etc. Pentylamine seems to have the edge, and would be WP:CONSISTENT with butylamine, hexylamine, and other primary amines. The proposed title would lose consistency with 3-aminopentane, whose common name is less clear but 3-aminopentane is a reasonable candidate, and consistency among an analogous series of compounds (here, straight-chain amines) seems more important. I would not oppose a move of the latter to 3-Pentylamine if there is a desire for that. Mdewman6 (talk) 00:23, 15 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
