Will of Alice Feild - 1636

[edit]

The will of Alice Feild (spouse of Bishop Theophilus Feild) has this statement - "I doe give devise & bequeath unto my eldest sonne John ffeild All that the Castle and Mannoror of Penhow in the County of Monmouth together wth all the lands and Tenemente leases Rents service and appurtenunce whatsoever in as large and ample manner as my Lord and I purchased the same of Henry Billingsley Esquier To have and to hold the same Castle Mannor landed and premisses to him the Said John ffeild his heires and assignes for ever." This would imply that the Feild family owned the castle for a period of time in the 17th century? ~2026-85529-7 (talk) 21:33, 7 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
