Possible anachronism (section The Great Escape)

It states that taking part he was on the run before being arrested by "home guard on entering the village" during March 1944. What we now know as the German equivalent of the British Home Guard, called Volkssturm, were not formed until autumn of that year, making this anachronistic. I have raised a citation need tag against the sentence, it is not mentioned in the next cited source, a press interview with Paul Royle in 2014. Were there other organisations known to allied servicemen that had a home guard function?Cloptonson (talk) 17:01, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
