The need for an actual page here

[edit]

Currently, this is just a disambiguation page, but there's a serious lack of "partition alignment" content at most of the linked-to articles. Here's where everything currently redirects to:

Link nameWhere it actually goesNote
4 KB sector alignmentAdvanced Format#4K nativeThis explains the motive for 4 KiB alignment.
Track partition alignmentMaster boot recordThis does not explain alignment. It just lists Partition alignment under "See also".
Cylinder partition alignmentMaster boot recordThis does not explain alignment. It just lists Partition alignment under "See also".
SSD page partition alignmentSolid-state drive#File systems suitable for SSDsThis seems to explain why 1 MiB alignment is used, but it's not clear from the section what difference (if any) there is between page and block alignment.
SSD block partition alignmentSolid-state drive#File systems suitable for SSDsThis seems to explain why 1 MiB alignment is used, but it's not clear from the section what difference (if any) there is between page and block alignment.
1 MB partition alignmentSolid-state drive#File systems suitable for SSDsThis seems to explain 1 MiB alignment (different SSDs use different block/page sizes and 1 MiB is the least common denominator).
RAID stripe alignmentRAIDThere's no mention of alignment there.

This is pretty hit-and-miss for a list of links. If everything were nicely explained in the linked-to articles, then there would be no need for a separate "partition alignment" article. But as-is, I can't tell if the problem is this page being a disambiguation or the linked-to articles not explaining the topic. This topic could really use some expert attention. Hello! Sorry, but I'm not really sure what's wrong with the disambigution page? It simply lists what's available on the topic in already existing articles, and the whole partition alignment topic is a rather broad one with a lot of history behind it. In other words, it pretty much can't be explained in detail using only a few sentences.  Dsimic (talk | contribs) 23:33, 19 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
