Louisiana

I wonder why Louisiana has parishes while all the other states have counties. Does anybody know? --Pee Wee 17:57, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

It's because of Louisiana's high Roman Catholic Population. Louisiana used to have counties, but these were changed over to parishes shortly after statehood. Sf46 (talk) 00:26, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

how to abbreviate Parish?

″Parish″ in Russia

According to this article, (1) ″[a] parish is an administrative division used by several countries″, (2) ″the term civil parish is used in some jurisdictions, as noted below″, and (3) the Russian term is ″приход". However, the term ″приход″ means the same as ″ecclesiastical parish″. So, in this respect the current version is incorrect. NN21 (talk) 10:34, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
