Result: Delisted. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 14:21, 23 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

As noted on the talkpage, this is a very extensive article that includes within that extent unsourced text. Even within the apparently sourced text, there are issues, for example the Regional government source does not cover all its text. Other issues include the recent history section entering WP:PROSELINE, other areas having similar dated statements, and the overall article going into MOS:OVERSECTION. The WP:LEAD contains unique information rather than being a summary of the article. The length (>14,000 words) suggests this article does not "stay focused", and contributes to issues such as the unsourced text and the oversectioning. These issues would take significant work to fix. CMD (talk) 03:04, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

This article was pretty lengthy when I last looked at it, and is now considerably lengthier. I don't mind that too much at GA level (quite another matter at FAC) but unsourced additions are another matter and decidedly a no-no. Tim riley talk 13:49, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
@CMD, Tim riley: I have tried to fix WP:PROSELINE and the lead (although it probably should be rewritten); I'll try to fix the other issues soon. The article is probably a bit too long, but not by a lot: Boston (FA) contains just under 10,000 words, while Paris contains just over 14,000. Some of the difference is probably because there are more things to write about (as the capital city of France); I have proposed the "Culture" and "Infrastructure" sections to be split. Progress for cleanup by section (for my convenience):
SectionProgressComment
Lead Not doneNeeds to be rewritten.
Etymology DoneCan't see any citation problem (if there is please tag it).
History Not doneQ few claims need citation, some claims probably need to be moved to History of Paris, a claim needs to be clarified.
Geography DoneSourced and enough coverage.
Administration Not doneA paragraph without cite, there are probably more claims without reference.
Cityscape Not doneSeveral claims without cite.
Demographics Maybe doneIt appears well sourced but haven't thoroughly checked yet.
Economics
Education
Culture Not doneProbably needs split and actually needs to address the culture of the city.
Sport mostly doneSpin-off from the culture section, mostly sourced but the Rugby League part may need some more.
Infrastructure Not doneProbably needs a split, and if not OVERSECTION needs to be addressed. Also there are some claims without sources.
International relations Not doneNeeds some sources and cleanup, but not an overhaul.

Education

[edit]

Dear all. To GA-RT-22 (talk). You did a mistake buddy by removing HEC Paris on the Education part.

So we have two options :

Parisàvie (talk) 08:00, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Everything on Wikipedia must be verifiable. That means it must have been published in a reliable source before you can add it. See WP:V. GA-RT-22 (talk) 08:21, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is not what I am talking about. Please read again my post (and on top of that if I follow your logic on the part mentioned there is no source). --Parisàvie (talk) 08:40, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have put it back HEC Paris and added École du Louvre. As I said, we need to take a final decision:
  • We consider it is Paris region like the rest of the article and we leave like that ;
  • We consider it is only Paris downtown and we need to clean up.
In my opinion the first option is the best to follow the logic of the article.--Parisàvie (talk) 08:49, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia:Verifiability is not optional. It is Wikipedia policy. It describes a widely accepted standard that all editors should normally follow. You can't just ignore it and refuse to talk about it. And you can't add "Paris is the home of ... HEC Paris" without citing a reliable, independent source that supports the material. GA-RT-22 (talk) 13:02, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I am starting to doubt about why you are on Wikipedia. I say again, this is not what I am talking about. I am talking about you remove HEC Paris "because it is not in Paris" and I am saying on this section there are 4 more institutions not in Paris dowtown. Please do you understand? And by the way if you want to talk about sources, where are the sources for the other educational institutions mentioned? Thanks in advance. Kind Regards. --Parisàvie (talk) 14:20, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have not checked the sources for the other schools you mentioned. I have no objection if you want to remove them. GA-RT-22 (talk) 16:18, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@GA-RT-22, actually, I do think it would helpful if you could explain why you think the current sourcing for HEC Paris is inadequate (is the [failed verification] tag for just one of the sources or all three?). Even for FAs like Ashton-under-Lyne we are pretty happy to cite government databases and primary sources for uncontroversial claims like "a school exists in X". LkL-70547 (talk) 16:39, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@GA-RT-22@Parisàvie I would just like to emphasise WP:BATTLEGROUND as I do believe that the conversation is getting a little heated.
Furthermore @GA-RT-22 I would agree with LkL-70547 that you should explain why we need a better source when it is such an uncontroversial claim. Furthermore as per WP:PRIMARY I do not see how this should have been deleted as the guideline states that:
A primary source may be used on Wikipedia only to make straightforward, descriptive statements of facts that can be verified by any educated person with access to the primary source but without further, specialized knowledge. For example, an article about a musician may cite discographies and track listings published by the record label, and an article about a novel may cite passages to describe the plot, but any interpretation needs a secondary source.
I hope we can come to an agreement over this but, to be honest I do believe that the content shouldn't have been deleted but, I am very happy to be convinced that I am wrong.
Cheers. Equivalent-Text2598 (talk) 17:16, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
But we don't have any source at all that says HEC is in Paris, do we? Which one? GA-RT-22 (talk) 17:19, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
You deleted 3 sources and I can verify:
1.https://annuaire-entreprises.data.gouv.fr/entreprise/association-des-diplomes-hec-dite-hec-alumni-784361149
2.https://theconversation.com/institutions/hec-paris-business-school-2276
3.https://www.mondedesgrandesecoles.fr/hec-paris-de-laudace-au-service-de-lexcellence-depuis-1881/
So there were sources.
The first one said the adress was 9 AVENUE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT 75008 PARIS.
The second said Specializing in management education and research, HEC Paris offers a complete and unique range of educational programs for the leaders of tomorrow.
Finally, the third said "HEC Paris : de l’audace au service de l’excellence depuis 1881".
All the sources seem to say that it is based in Paris.
I hope this helps. Equivalent-Text2598 (talk) 17:34, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The first one says that ASSOCIATION DES DIPLOMES HEC DITE HEC ALUMNI is in Paris. That's not HEC Paris. It's a different organization. The second two quotes you gave me don't mention Paris (the city) at all. GA-RT-22 (talk) 20:31, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
They both mention it in the context of Paris. HEC Paris means that it is based in Paris in the same way SciencePO Paris is based in Paris. The Grandes Ecoles have multiple campuses so that it is one of the ways to find out. Furthermore, we can see it didn't need to be deleted for being unsourced as it has its own article HEC Paris. The website also tells us its address so even if the the first one was the alumni association (which logically is in the same town but we can't infer I agree) the two others are clear enough. The two others mention Paris in their qoute.
I do not understand why this content needed to be deleted when it was so obviously true. Equivalent-Text2598 (talk) 06:40, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Bias

[edit]

There is an emphasis on the number of muslims in the country of france in the demographics: religion category. This article is about Paris. Bw02145 (talk) 23:21, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

As opposed to saying the number of muslims in paris, and the number of jews in paris. The description about muslims has undue weight and goes on to talk about their population in the country of france, and the behavior of french muslims instead of Parisian muslims.
