Hi. I'll review this as part of GARC. Alexeyevitch(talk) 22:15, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Rate Attribute Review Comment
1. Well-written:
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct.
  • "Iddo" leads to a disambig link
    • Fixed.-VWF
  • Ashipa[a],, should the note be after the puncuation?
    • Definitely, I fixed link.-VWF
  • "On returning to Benin" sounds awkward to my mind
  • "ecclesiastical" isn't a common word in English, I'd suggest simplifying it so more novice readers can understand it, as WP should be understandable to most readers.
  • Link reign. Again, uncommon word in English.
  • [...] he faced a choice between continuing [...] would be simplier if it said decided
  • Soon after his accession, it would be more informative to add an actual date
  • [...] their yearly tribute to whom?
    • All above fixed. -VWF
  • Orhogbua later appointed his grandson, Ashipa, what gives Smith 2023 more authority on the subject if it's disputed by Egharevba 1968. I think mentioning the sources dispute in prose is better. I think the last footnote is fine, as it is a smaller issue on spelling.
  • Christianity in Benin is a more helpful link than simply Christianity
  • He is also credited with introducing native cooking salt in Benin - can you pls clarify who you're referring to here
    • Fixed. -VWF
  • Is native cooking salt different to the standard cooking salt?
    • Yes. See a video of what the Edo people's native cooking salt looks like here. -VWF
  • Ehengbuda can be linked in the body
    • Done. -VWF
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.
  • "1760--1900" should be replaced with an en dash.
    • Fixed.-VWF
  • I question why the only instance in AD is in the second section, not the first
    • Fixed. -VWF
  • I learned numbers of 10 and above should be written as figures, e.g., it should be "16th century"
    • Fixed. -VWF
2. Verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline.
  • Refs are tidily listed
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
  • All appear to be reliable
2c. it contains no original research.
  • [2] check
  • [3] check
  • [6] check
  • [11] check
  • "[...] perhaps at first [...]" in Odunlami & Oyenuga 2020. "perhaps" applies some level of uncertainty, but the article does not make this clear
    • Rephrase. -VWF
2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism.
  • I did not find anything of concern
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic.
  • Yes
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
  • Yes
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  • Yes
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
  • Yes
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content.
  • Yes
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.
  • Yes
7. Overall assessment.
