"ecclesiastical" isn't a common word in English, I'd suggest simplifying it so more novice readers can understand it, as WP should be understandable to most readers.

Orhogbua later appointed his grandson, Ashipa, what gives Smith 2023 more authority on the subject if it's disputed by Egharevba 1968. I think mentioning the sources dispute in prose is better. I think the last footnote is fine, as it is a smaller issue on spelling.
