Hawaiian Airlines

There have not been official announcements if or when Hawaiian would join Oneworld. Wording should be made conditional rather than definite ("Hawaiian Airlines may be a future member...") Nin10dude317 (talk) 18:05, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

Prospective Future Members

By adding a prospective future members section under future members allows airlines such as Starlux to be mentioned as they have, many times, told media that they aim to join Oneworld by the end of 2025. 91.110.193.48 (talk) 23:25, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

Prospective does not mean future member. Prospective members in the past include MIAT Mongolian, Aer Lingus, and China Southern — none of which ever joined.

Lowercase formatting

I notice that the article title is using all-lowercase formatting as "oneworld", while many independent reliable sources appear to capitalize the first letter. Per MOS:TM, trademarks, brand names, and the names of companies are generally capitalized. I believe "Oneworld" should be capitalized. Also see MOS:ALLCAPS. MOS:TM has relevant examples like "pyrex", "skate", and "macy's". It says not to use stylized forms unless the name is "almost never written except in a particular stylized form".

I found wholesale lowercasing in a pair of recent IP edits (22 January) that was only partially reverted in the next edit. A {{Lowercase title}} template was added later in another IP edit of 17 March. I think all that should be reverted.

• Support UC Per MOS:TM we generally cap such a name and the threshold to use an alternative styling is set quite high. I have considered usage in sources used in the article that are not released by the organisation itself. The usage in independent sources tends to capitalise. Hawaiian Airlines (again)

There haven't been any official announcements from oneworld or Hawaiian about them joining the alliance. The date of the 22nd appears to come from Qantas, which is likely referring to Hawaiian being integrated into Alaska's operations. Obviously this does mean it's technically operating under OW, but since it's not operating its own flights, it shouldn't be listed as a full member and shouldn't have been considered a future member in the first place. We can see if it appears as an affiliate under Alaska, but it isn't listed currently so for now I've removed it from the members section entirely. Cubnorth (talk) 21:39, 22 April 2026 (UTC)

As of April 23, the HA website has updated its logo with the OW indicator, and the AS/HA newsroom has also included a line at the end of each page: "Alaska and Hawaiian are members of the oneworld alliance." However, the oneworld website still did not update HA as a member airlines or an affiliate. Better to wait for the official announcement from oneworld for an accurate listing. 2cb6 (talk) 08:14, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

Yeah don't get me wrong, I get that it is technically under oneworld. But this is operating under the fact that Hawaiian is now simply a brand of Alaska, so it's unclear how this will present in the alliance. Cubnorth (talk) 10:19, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

Neither of these confirm it will be as a separate airline. Both lead with 'as a subsidiary of Alaska'. I don't even think its possible for it to be a separate member as it doesn't even operate with its own AOC. This is a new situation for any alliance so it's all quite unclear, but we cannot be listing airlines as full members when they're not even in the member section of the website. Incorrect, they say “subsidiary of Alaska Air Group” which is a separate entity to Alaska Airlines. Alaska Air Group own both Alaska and Hawaiian but is a distinct entity to either. Icyaqulo (talk) 11:19, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

None of this changes the facts that Hawaiian and Alaska are operating as a single entity. Until we get a clearer answer, we have to go with Oneworld's official member list. Ultimately what airlines say is meaningless if the alliance itself doesn't agree. Cubnorth (talk) 11:35, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

Ok the website now shows Alaska and Hawaiian as a joint member together, and lists Hawaiian as an affiliate, but the newsroom announcement and the info page list 16 members. So I guess it can be left as is now? Bit confusing but oh well. Cubnorth (talk) 16:05, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

Yes, the oneworld press release states "oneworld brings together 16 world-class airlines – Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian and SriLankan Airlines" so I think that's pretty clear as far as how they look at it and how it should be tracked going forward. ~2026-12855-79 (talk) 20:01, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

I'd say no as Hawaiian is specifically listed in the affiliate section. Either we list it as an affiliate of Alaska or have the member be 'Alaska Airlines/Hawaiian Airlines' per their most recent press release Cubnorth (talk) 11:19, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

I think listing both as members is a good solution, but Hawaiian shouldn’t then be listed as an affiliate too. As I pointed out, the “Alaska Air Group” is the member, but the company operates as one airline with two brands. RickyCourtney (talk) 16:57, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

Like someone said, we shouldn't be listing stuff like American Airlines group, and Hawaiian's logo still shows on the website, if we still listed Hawaiian Airlines as separate member from Alaska but leave the number of members at 15 because they are jointly listed AlextheBCOLboy (talk) 17:02, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

As I pointed out before, Hawaiian is specifically listed in the affiliates section, and the member is described in press releases as Alaska Airlines/Hawaiian Airlines. There's already a note on them pointing out why Hawaiian is listed in both. Cubnorth (talk) 19:37, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
