Photo change to collage photo I created

[edit]

I have plans to update the lead photo with a recent collage photo of the members that I made on Commons for the lead image on the article Gzavala6 (talk) 00:33, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I disagree. The image should depict how they looked like in the band, however, all the images are of them post-breakup. Also, it is simply unnecessary to have a collage when there is a perfectly fine picture of them all actually together, that can be used in the infobox. We are very lucky with 1D as they have a lot of good images together, while other articles (eg NSYNC) only have collages because there are no appropriate images of them together as a band. jolielover♥talk 04:43, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Even though they are not together anymore, I believe it is best to use the collage photo I made and made it all five members in the same collage photo Gzavala6 (talk) 05:14, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Why though? What makes it 'better' than the current photo? jolielover♥talk 06:10, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agreed with jolielover, though I'd also like to see the collage photo. there's also plenty pictures of concerts on wikimedia if you feel it needs replacing. we could, i suppose, include the collage photo further down the article, maybe in the band members section. I actually did put a collage of them with current photos in the Hiatus subsection, but it was removed per feedback from Wikipedia:Peer review/One Direction/archive1 jolielover♥talk 11:01, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think it'd depend what Gzevala's collage looks like as to whether we should include it. Though all their individual articles are linked and have photos, so it might be a bit redundant. EmergentAnarchy (talk) 11:06, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think it's the exact same as my collage, or maybe just 1-2 pictures changed. Yeah, I think it's redundant... it's like having a picture of Paul McCartney today on the Beatles page. You can check his page to see how he's doing, no use of it on the Beatles page. jolielover♥talk 11:09, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
While we're on the subject, are there any pictures of Zayn taken in the last decade? there's none on commons or his article from after 2015. EmergentAnarchy (talk) 11:11, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Nah. That's another thing, all the members are struggling for pics post-breakup. Zayn in particular doesn't even tour so even harder to get pics. jolielover♥talk 11:22, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Anybody going to Louis's/Harrys/Nialls tours this year, please upload to commons, pretty please!!! jolielover♥talk 11:23, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
He's started touring in the last couple years (starts one this week iirc), so hopefully someone will post something from those. btw, i was hoping to upgrade his article to A class, but someone else needs to sign off on it EmergentAnarchy (talk) 11:25, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I thought he cancelled but it was just the American tour dates. jolielover♥talk 11:27, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

English-Irish boy band

[edit]

Normally, a band in which one-fifth of the members are not from the United Kingdom would, according to common practice, still be referred to as a British boy band. It was neither founded in Ireland nor does it consist predominantly of members from Ireland. This is a clear case of Wikipedia activism. It is a British band with one Irish member. Pulpitty (talk) 15:21, 26 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

You're right, we typically only consider wherever the band is based. But I feel like this would be a controversial change. Maybe we do it like Katseye – "boy band based in London". jolielover♥talk 18:19, 26 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
