Demographics

[edit]

It is mentioned in the lead, but shouldn't the longevity of the population also be mentioned in the Demographics section? Maybe something like:"For each 100,000 residents, 68 are centenarians, three times the number found in the US population. 85% of Okinawan centenarians are women which is typical for centenarian populations." refs http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20190116-a-high-carb-diet-may-explain-why-okinawans-live-so-long and https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0047637416302202#bib0060 and https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12470842 72.16.99.93 (talk) 12:42, 21 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Insight into infection section

[edit]

The Insight into infection section has a few issues:

  1. It needs some intro/re-writing to give it context
  2. Does it belong in the U.S. military section? It seems more appropriate in the Demographics section, as it is based on the population on the island.

I re-wrote and renamed the subsection "JC virus research study" and moved it to the Demographics section as it is specific to the population of Okinawa - not just the military population. ERcheck (talk) 15:13, 17 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Cuisine edit?

[edit]

Why is Tonkatsu listed as Okinawan cuisine? It has no link to Okinawan origins on its own page nor is it listed in the linked okinawan cuisine page. 2403:5818:4B3F:0:910F:69F8:B076:D816 (talk) 09:30, 30 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
